Buy Right: Oxford
Contact: Sean Robinson ([email protected])
Every year, Oxford spends millions on and makes millions from buying and selling clothes. And every day the dignity and rights of the people stitching these clothes together are violated.
We aim to ensure that the Oxford Crest never appears on an item of clothing made by people who are being exploited. We raise awareness to ensure that colleges, sports teams and societies buy their stash from a reputable source. We help students to make the change happen.
We put pressure on the University’s business arm, Oxford Ltd, to be transparent about the factories that are used to make the clothes that are branded with the Oxford crest and then sold all over the world.
By working with People and Planet, the Worker’s Rights Consortium and students and staff here at Oxford we hope that our university will lead the way in ending exploitation in the production of its clothes.
It’s a big task. We need someone in every college and on every society and sports team. We need people to lobby the university. We need people to spread the word with events, articles and actions.
To get involved email me, Sean, at the address above or come to the OUSU offices in Bonn Sq at 17.30 on a Thursday.
